Slim Secrets Bars

Another brand I like..
Slim Secrets

Night Time Binge Buster Bar - Raspberries and White Choc

In a few words: Yummy white chocolate DRENCHED bar to kill cravings
I really do love these! You can get them at Coles and Boost. They are great with a cup of boiling water to dip in (and make the chocolate melty) I saw a big muscly guy eating one for morning tea the other day. I was happy knowing a huge guy like that and me eat the same things, as we wach what we put into our bodies (well more than the people eating kit-kats)

Nutrition: 145 cal, 3.9g fat (2.9 sat) 4g sugar, 3g fibre, soy based
Taste: Yummy. Enough white choc, and sweet innards. It is a little chewey, like aricebubbly inside
Cost: About $3 :(
Verdict: This is a keeper. Yes, expensive, but very very nice. Better than wasting those $$ and cals on dessert that makes me want more and more!

Choc- Caramel

Nutrition&Cost: Very similar to the above
Taste: Not as good as the above! Dissapointing - sounded so good, caramel, choc and nut?? I salivated as the thought of a fake snickers, but to me it was just chocolate...
Verdict: The others are too good, so I'll ignore this one.

Mint

Nutrition&Cost: Very similar to the above
Taste: Minty fresh, once again good dipped in hot water
Verdict: When I want a minty hit, I go these or pria bars if I'm short on calcium.

Nutrition: 84 cal - smaller than the others, has added calcium, omega 3s.
Taste: Odd.. I was surprised at the chocolate though! Good surprise. I ate it little bit at a time, dissolving it on the tongue and got a nasty aftertaste! It was much better to chew.
Cost: $2
Verdict: Good if you want one bar when out shopping and dont want to blow your cals, but I wont get any more of this flavour. I'd rather buy a peach

Well Naturall Products

Well Naturally
I'm a fan of a lot of these products, so I thought I'd do a big review! I eat these are treats, not snacks.

AntiOx Bars
In a few words: Sweet and chocolately - is it really good for me again?
There is an acai flavour too. I like both!
Nutrition: ORAC* value per bar = 7,000, 160 cal, 2.7g protein, 7.5g fat, 3.9g saturated.
*ORAC (Oxygen Absorbency Capacity) is the new scientific test that measures the antioxidant potency of foods.
Taste: Sweet, not too chewy, lots more chocolate than I thought, and smell great!
Cost: About $2.50 a bar. Not cheap
Verdict: Will continue buying them, hopefully on special, for when I need a small amount of chocolate

Sugar-Free Chocolate - Mint
In a few words:
Where's the mint?
I have this sweet tooth that kicks in at night. its good to know that im not totally rotting my teeth and spiking my sugar levels before bed with these
Nutrition: Low GI/carb, antioxidents, 186cal, 17g fat, 10g saturated, no sugars.
Taste: Good bitter chocolate, not too sweet. But very little mint taste.
Cost: About $2.50 a bar. Not cheap
Verdict: Wont bother - may try the caramel, but there's other sugar free dark choc anyway.

High Protein Mini Bar - Peppermint
In a few words: I like this sort of surprise!!
I was expecting a dry, chewy bar. Instead I got something like a peppermint nougat bar! Boy was I happy munching on this after my workout!
Nutrition: 84 cal and wont ruin your dinner appetite. 9.5g protein "Low GI, Less than 4g Carbs"
Taste: Pretty good. Enough chocolate and mint.
Cost: $1.75. A treat after a hard workout
Verdict: Should be having yogurt after a workout, but if I see these on clearance, I'll be buying all of them!

Slimright Weight Loss Accelerator - Cookie Crunch Bar

Slimright Weight Loss Accelerator - Cookie Crunch Bar

In a few words:
Expensive but tasty

People seeing me buying this (and weight-watchers stuff) think I am some body-image distorted freak. Its saddening, but I'm learning not to care.

I am not fat. I know this. I am well shaped. So why do I eat "diet" foods? Well honestly, find me a nice tasting half-healthy muesli bar? I have found a few. I end up eating the whole pack they are too nice. These give me a way to try a usually higher protein, low sugar alternative. Not only that, but there's a reason I'm not huge - I dont eat mars bars as snacks (no matter how many times people suggest I could "get away with one")

These cost about $2.20 each ($2 on special)

Here's a picture of a little less than half of one.

Nutrition: Made out of Soy Protein Nuggets (23%) 40g. 620kj/148kcal, 9,5g protein, 4.8g fat, 2.6g sat fat, 7.4g sugar, 6g fibre.

Taste/Texture: Very chewy. I like to eat them slowly. They are pretty chocolatey, a little gritty (soy does that) but totally feel like an unhealthy muesli bar, when at least its high in protein and fibre to keep you full.

Verdict: Good emergency handbag food. These kill my chocolate bar cravings but at the same price as a twix.

I've also tried some of the other bars, will review soon, but this is my favourite of this brand

The Raw Prawn

Restaurant Review

The Esplanade Centre, Esplanade, Cairns

Open for lunch and dinner, The Raw Prawn seafood restaurant truly is a Cairns dining experience that will spoil all the senses.

In a few words: Creative and delicious seafood!
Thats the view from the street. DH and I have an early dinner at The Raw Prawn earlier this year. I'd heard about it from The Canberra Cook and thought we'd give it a go.

After an entree of very nice, FRESH garlic bread (so good forgot to take a photo!) we ordered our mains...

I went with the Raw Prawn 5-in-1 -
Barramundi, prawns, moreton bay bug, calamari,
soft shell crab, seasonal fruit & chips.
The fruit was like having a mini dessert! I did regret everything being deep fried but it was just so delish!!! The chips were fat and the salad's dressing not to heavy.

DH went for the Roo Surf and Turf - topped w grilled bay bug tail & prawns in garlic butter,
served with sweet potato mash, bok choy, rosella chutney & red papaya jam
.

Sure the meals were expensive, but HUGE, so we should have really shared an entree and main.

Taste/Quality: As I said, great. Fresh, quick and the menu was huge with lots and lots of choice.
Cost: $18-50 for mains. They do have good lunch specials
Verdict: I'd love to go again, if only to explore some of the other options. Probably go at lunch to save some money though.

About me and all that jazz!

Who am I?

A young aussie chick obsessed with food!! I love smelling it, looking at it, touching it and most of all eating it! To compensate for my infatuation I try to eat as healthy as possible so I can "afford" those naughty treats! I'm also a little frugal, trying to save money for the future!I'm also a bit of a traveller at the moment - work has me flying around Australia, with nowhere to really call home at the moment! Adelaide is where all my things are, but I cannot call myself a true Adelaidian yet!

What's this blog for?

Me and like-minded people. I'll be reviewing food products, cheapo tips, recipes, restaurants, and other random things along the way. I hope to help you stomp out those dastardly diet-destroyers by "healthifying" recipes.

What do I eat?

What don't I eat! I love food, especially breakfast and fresh, healthy food. Every day I eat 3 meals and several snacks if I can. I am a massive sweet tooth - to the extent of it being a problem so I try and cut back a bit. Because of work, food is provided and paid for, so I have to get creative if I wanna stay good. But I usually cave come dessert! Hopefully this blog will keep me accountable.I love chocolate, peanut butter, caramel (together is even better) but I am lucky and also LOVE fruits like mango, berries, plums and will happily munch on tofu or a steak. I also love hummus, garlic, chinese and turkish food.I would like to be an 80-20 eater. But when I am more of a 50-50 I have to exercise to help maintain balance.

What exercise do you do?

To be honest I hate exercise in general. I find running frustrating and painful. BUT dont give up - you just need to find something you like. And I LOVE fitness classes. Aerobic, weights, dancing, ANYTHING. Can't get enough. I am so busy trying to be co-ordinateed I dont even realise I'm burning it up! But once again, work hours and locations mean I can't be a gym member with any stability, so I try and keep fit myself, any way I can!

So welcome to the blog. I can't promise good humour or frequent updates, but I'l try my best to share yummy recipes, new foods that hit the shelves (especially if you're on a health kick or some sort of diet) fitness tips, reviews on restaurants around the country etc.
